Ensaymada

image

When I was on vacation in the Philippines, I always buy Nino Muhlach Ensaymada, aside from it’s delicious, it’s affordable. too bad, I am not a good baker. I would bake cake or brownies, but it would come from the box. I just didn’t get any talent in baking. My aunt on the other hand can make siopao, ensaymada, pancit malabon (my fave) but, unfortunately, she’s around 10 hours away from us. So, now all I can do is drool over this picture and pray that hopefully, I will be able to learn how to make this swirled bread with sugar, butter or  cheese on top. Yum!

Craving for Pakbet

image

Picture: Google

Wahhh! I had been craving for Pakbet. I want it so bad, that I was dreaming about it. There is an Asian store here in Huntsville, but it’s just too far away. We went there one time, but they don’t sell the kind of egg plant that I like, and their ampalaya looks different.

When I cook Pakbet, I love to put  pork (with lots of fat) brown bagoong and all the veggies to make it. I am drooling as I am writing this post. I guess, I am sick and tired of eating the food that I cook all the time. I want something different. My mom and I ate some Paksiw na Pata the other day. I love it when I was in the Philippines, I can eat anything that I want. The veggie vendors are scattered around the subdivision and whatever I crave for, was always available.

Anyways, I will try to go to the store next week, and see if they have other Filipino vegetables.

Our Valentine Meal..

 image               Chicken with Brocolli

Among all Chinese food, this is my most favorite of all. The sad part is, I don’t know how to cook it. I tried different ways, instant mix, sauce and all, but it just doesn’t the same as the one I buy from Chinese Restaurant.

And this is what we had for our Family Valentine lunch. We had Sesame Chicken which  is my husband favorite .

We also ordered Chicken low mein, the kids all time favorite. I guess, we all had great Valentine’s Day.

How about you’ll Valentine. I hope you had a great time with your loved ones..

Appetizer Mania

When my aunt used to do caterings, I went with her couple of times, and I learned a lot from her, for buffet table setting and food preparations. I might not be an expert but I can kind of do something better than no style at all.

image

During Jen’s birthday party, she made hot wings and egg rolls, and I thought of just making the food look more appetizing by putting green leaf lettuce on the platter  and then put the food over it. It gave a more edible taste. I always hear people say, it’s how you prepare you food is one way of making it look tastes better. It worked, coz there was no left over. Hahaha! I also put some candles in between the platters.

Have a great day everyone!

Sweet and Sour Chicken

100_2607

This dish is one of Rodney’s favorite, I guess he likes the sweet and sour taste of the sauce. I love making this, only it’s a lot of work, but once it’s done, it’s worth it.

100_2606These are the main ingredients for the sauce. you can just add salt and pepper if you prefer. But basically, you just fry the breaded chicken and pour the sauce on top. I added some veggies, for the looks of the picture, it didn’t get eaten, well the potatoes got eaten by hubby.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

My Dream Kitchen

One day, I was reading a magazine and found this article about renovating a house. They transformed their kitchen into this style and I feel so in-love with it. Been telling my hubby I want to paint my kitchen red and white, just like this picture, it doesn’t need to be the same arrangement. We can’t afford to have it changed to this style, but at least, I can repaint it. Now my kitchen is kind of wall papered and I didn’t like it, it looks like old people live there. Among other part of my house, kitchen is my favorite place.

When, when can I have a kitchen this nice and big.I need space when I cook, I need a lot of counter tops, ahhh! am I just going to tell myself dream on! or it can happen. I guess, there is always hope..
